Decor tips for a fall wedding

So, you have officially settled on a wedding date and decided that a fall wedding would be perfect for you and your partner. Congratulations! Choosing a date for your wedding is a significant moment, and a decision that shouldn’t ever be rushed. After all, the time of year you choose to have your wedding can influence the flow of your day, your colour palette, and overall aesthetic of your wedding. Couples that opt for a fall wedding may want to include the warm colours or seasonal florals that are typically associated with the autumn foliage in their wedding.

Planning a fall wedding doesn’t mean you’re stuck having to use pumpkins or the colour orange. There is so much beauty that accompanies these autumn months, and a lot of different ways you can incorporate all the stunning aspects of this season into your wedding.

If you need some tips for creating the perfect fall wedding, you’re in good hands with us! Our team at Fresh Look Design loves planning weddings of all kinds, and our many years in the industry have left us feeling confident that we can help you achieve your dream fall wedding. So, we’ve gone ahead and listed out some tips for planning an autumn-inspired wedding.

USE NATURAL EARTHY TONES

One of our favourite things about fall weddings is getting to work with the beautiful vibrant colours of the season. Whenever our team is hired to work on autumn-inspired weddings, we love incorporating browns, greens, rusty oranges, burgundys, golden yellows, and rich reds into the florals and decorations. Using those earthy tones and warm colours can add a sense of coziness to your wedding, which is perfect for those couples who want a more intimate atmosphere.

There are many ways you can incorporate these warm and earthy tones into your wedding design. The most popular ways to do this is through your wedding florals, tablescape designs, or wedding party attire. And if you don’t want to lean too much into earthy tones? You can break up traditional colours with clean and classic white to keep it balanced and elegant!

USE IN-SEASON FLORALS

Since autumn is a transitional season, there’s room to be creative with the flowers you choose. Depending on how early into the fall you have your wedding, you may have your pick of gorgeous autumnal blooms, as well as some of the best summer florals as that season begins to wind down. Here are some of our favourite autumnal florals:

Ornamental Cabbage

Heartbreaker Dahlia

Some other autumnal florals we love using in our designs are white and yellow sunflowers, artichokes, leucadendron, green ball buds, fiddlehead ferns, tuxedo daisies, amaranths, and figs.

Fall is also the perfect time of year to incorporate some other autumn-inspired details into your centerpieces and bouquets. Consider swapping out the traditional greenery for dried canary grass, berries, or branches for that perfect touch of fall.

USE WOOD ELEMENTS

If a fall wedding is something you want, but you’re shying away from the more traditional and obvious touches of fall decor, we recommend incorporating wood elements into your design to bring in that elevated woodsy feel. Using wood elements in your fall wedding can give you that cozy and more intimate atmosphere that this season is known for, while still keeping a modern and elegant feel. Wood elements are  a good option for those couples who want a more subtle touch of the autumn season.

There are many ways you can add wood elements to your fall wedding. You can choose to add branches into your bouquets and centrepieces, you can have a gorgeous wood arch designed  for your ceremony, or even use real wooden barrels for an elevated yet rustic fall wedding touch. Using wood elements in your wedding arch is one of our favourite design options when incorporating wood. And what makes this option even better? Your ceremony arch can double as the backdrop for your head table!

While the season you’ve chosen to have your wedding in can inform your design choices, you do not need to have a fall wedding that’s fall-themed. If you do want to incorporate autumnal elements into your wedding, whether it’s in-season florals, natural & earthy colours, or wood elements, our team can guide you through that design process.
